Category Archives: Five boroughs, one community

Crystal Palace needs councillors, and community and business groups, who think of Crystal Palace first and the five boroughs second.

Each council will always neglect their forgotten corner of their borough, whether they are focusing on regenerating Bromley town centre or Elephant & Castle. So we want to support and set-up local networks that can work for the common good of the area.

We think the area needs:

  • A neighbourhood forum to develop a neighbourhood plan (covering planning policies for the area) and to shape development in the area
  • A community land trust to own and control more development in the area and put the common good of local people and businesses first
  • Long term, a parish council to give local people more control over the services to deal with problems like litter and poor highway maintenance

Community trusts can bring energy and innovation to libraries, but they need the backing of councils to ensure they can provide a full, professional service. In this blog, local member Rachel sets out her reasons for supporting the library. Continue reading Help save Upper Norwood Library from cuts
